Tip: Stronger Passwords

Having a hard time coming up with a strong password to keep your Myspace, AIM, Bank Account or anything else from getting hacked? Using passwords with words found in the dictionary is dangerous. There are software programs that hackers use that run the whole dictionary against a login screen using combinations of words and numbers to try and access your accounts. Passwords like password4safe, password1234, pass4word, and other combinations like that are just not safe enough anymore. Splitting a word with a number will work and may be easier for you to remember then a random assortment of letters. You could try using a digit that represents a letter like pa55word.

My recommendation if you want a really secure password is to use the password generator widget for the mac, if you have a mac or do a google search for password generator. There are freeware programs out there for you to download if you have windows. There are also websites like GoodPassword.Com that will auto generate passwords for you.  Either way you go you will end up with something secure that you can rest assure no average hacker will be able to crack.

The last thing you want to do is save this password somewhere safe. You can store them online at Agatra.Com or use a software program on your computer. Macs come with the Keychain which is what I use for password storage. If you are a Mac user and wish to use Keychain read this article. It will tell you how to use Keychain and create a USB thumbdrive Keychain that you can securely access from any Mac.

Hope this helps with your security and password woes.
