The New Mac Pro Can Wait, For Now

Don’t get me wrong, I want that bad boy packed with the latest leading edge technology but there is one problem: The monitors. The Mac Pro would best be suited with 4K Displays, which cost 4K money right now. I understand that a Mac Pro with the specs I want will set me back about $5,000 but I don’t want to spend another $3500 or more on a display. Sure you can get cheaper displays, but why would you? It would be like buying regular DVD’s to play in your Blu-ray Player.

I have been waiting for a long time for this update to the Mac Pro line but did not anticipate decent 4K monitors still being as expensive as they are. I would hate to drop that kind of money on a monitor just to have the price of them drop a ton over the next 6 months.

The New Mac Pro has been met with a lot of positive reviews and though I am excited to edit photos and video with some real horsepower, I can wait until monitor prices come down. If you remember when flat panel and LED monitors hit the market, they were pricy, such is the case with a 4K monitor. I have a 24″ Viewsonic that I could use for now, but I don’t want to plug in a $150 monitor into a $5,000 Mac Pro. I can wait.

What are your thoughts? Are you getting one, or will you wait?

I would love to get one myself. I think the issue you bring up is true. Although, you can get 4k monitors from Dell for under $1500 but they way it supports 4k leaves a little to be desired.
