Slow Down…
I find this story about a situation I found myself in this last Friday amusing. So, I’m driving down i5 to LA and I’m on the grapevine. I’m bookin it along pretty well as I usually do. I believe I was doing about 80. I was blaring this Christian rock band that I downloaded a few months back called The Beautiful Republic. The song Let’s Be Honest was playing, which is a pretty cool song, I suggest you check it out. Some of the lyrics are as follows:
Slow down, we’re slowly dying
But we can live again
Be lifted up in HimI’m dead because I want to live in Jesus
But one day I will rise up
I’ll try to show you who He is
So for some odd reason the words “Slow Down” kept sticking out to me. Now keep in mind those two words are only said in the song about 4 different times as it is the chorus and after 4 hours of listening to music you would think that the lyrics to any song would just go in one ear and out the other, but for some reason I thought to myself I aught to slow down because I was speeding. So I slowed down to about 70. That lasted for about 2 minutes and I was back up to 80, better yet more like 85 in some parts unless there was a turn coming. I was on the down slope at this point. So the truck in front of me that was going slightly faster than I was slowed down and moved a lane over. Me being the person who is usually always scanning all directions and could spot out anything failed to spot the officer on the side of the road. Right as I passed him he pulled out and pulled me over. I got a ticket for doing 85 in a 65…
What is so funny to me about this story is that I was not even mad at all. When I got pulled over I thanked God because that was a blatant instance of Him talking to me and I knew it. Coming from a person who struggles with whether God talks to him or not this is a big deal. I was on a spiritual high for the rest of the weekend, it was great. It’s probably going to cost me $200 but I don’t even care. I am just glad that Jesus cares enough to get a hold of me even if it’s just to save me from getting a speeding ticket. Unfortunately I was a bit to stubborn to listen but that is the kind of relationship I have with God. He tells me something, I ignore it, then I go back to him with my head down…
Anyhow, just thought I would share that little story.
