Apple OWNS Hacked/Unlocked iPhone users

I had a feeling this would happen, and soon.

According to the people over at iPhone Alley, the new iPhone update, which was preceded by the big warning earlier this week that “If you have modified your iPhone’s Software, applying this software update may result in your iPhone becoming permanantly inoperable” does just exactly that.

The update, a whopping 152 megabyte download available through iTunes, seems to completely disable the ability to install third party applications. (OWNED #1) Additionally, running the version 1.1.1 update on previously unlocked iPhones that have been altered to run on alternate wireless carriers other than AT&T will return an “Incorrect SIM” error message. (OWNED #2)
Previously unlocked iPhones also appear to have been rolled back to a mode where only emergency numbers such as 911 can be called, similar to the mode your phone is in fresh out of the box. (OWNED #3)

As with recent iPhone updates, if you’ve unlocked the phone or installed third party applicaitons, a restore through iTunes will be necessary thus reverting your phone back to it’s original state before the hack. (OWNED #4)

I am glad that I resisted messing with my phone from the get go. It was tempting but this is my business phone and with out it I would be in a tough spot…

What fools… Don’t they know resistance is futile and the human mind will always prevail over company stupidity? They are simply delaying the inevitable.
